I see that AN is generating both SQL full text search/index  as well as Lucene.  What is the scenario when I would use SQL full text search/index or Lucene?

Thanks,

James

This is really all about preference.  FWIW, FTI in 2008 is a vast improvement over 2005.

The Search.aspx/(and service) functionality uses Lucene.NET, but you could easily replace this by circumventing the Lucene.NET search results and asking the DB for the results.  You would need to mirror the document fields as currently stored, but this is easily examined using the Luke toolbox.

I have other thoughts on FTI here: http://arachnode.net/search/SearchResults.aspx?q=FTI

And here: http://arachnode.net/search/SearchResults.aspx?q=FTI+Lucene.NET

For best service when you require assistance:

  1. Check the DisallowedAbsoluteUris and Exceptions tables first.
  2. Cut and paste actual exceptions from the Exceptions table.
  3. Include screenshots.
